Agentic Development

Agentic development is a new model for real estate development where autonomous AI agents work alongside human domain experts to execute development workflows end-to-end. Unlike traditional AI copilots that assist with individual tasks, agentic systems independently research, analyze, and produce deliverables across the full development lifecycle — from site selection and due diligence to underwriting and investment committee preparation.

How agentic development works

In an agentic development workflow, AI agents are assigned specific roles — site sourcer, due diligence analyst, underwriter, market researcher — and coordinate with each other and human experts to complete multi-step processes. Each agent can access proprietary data sources, apply institutional-grade frameworks, and produce structured outputs that feed into downstream workflows. Human experts review, refine, and approve outputs at critical decision points.

Why it matters for CRE

Traditional commercial real estate development relies on manual processes that take weeks or months. A single site selection study can require analysts to review hundreds of parcels, cross-reference zoning codes, assess environmental risk, and model financial returns. Agentic development compresses these timelines from weeks to days by running parallel analysis streams that would be impossible for human teams alone.

Agentic development vs. AI copilots

AI copilots respond to prompts and assist with discrete tasks. Agentic systems take a goal — 'find 50 sites in the Southeast that meet these criteria and produce a ranked shortlist with financial models' — and autonomously plan, execute, and deliver. The distinction is between a tool you use and a partner that works alongside you.
